FLYBE is looking to be making up to 18 of its Guernsey staff redundant, it is understood.

Seven of the airline's 10 locally-based captains could lose their jobs, along with five engineers and six ticket desk staff.

The airline refused to comment on its plans.

It has two Dash 8s based in Guernsey, but one will be removed once the 88-seater Embraer 170 comes into use on the Gatwick route at the end of March.

It is believed the other Dash 8 will remain on the Southampton route.
