Annual Eisteddfod returns to the island for the 83rd year

A QUEUE stretched around Beau Sejour's reception as islanders clamoured to watch the first day of the 83rd Eisteddfod yesterday.

The annual showcase will see islanders competing in a variety of disciplines, including music, drama, art and languages, over the next three weeks.

The first class saw choirs from Melrose, Acorn House and Blanchelande compete in the infant school class.

Eisteddfod general secretary Barbara Minta said it had been going very well.

'It was very busy first thing, with all the mums and dads,' she said. 'We have already had 300 people throughout the morning.'
