A HOMEOWNER was left in shock yesterday after a tree fell on his roof.

Horace Bailey, 83, was in his wheelchair in the front room of his Rue a L'Eau house in King's Mills when the poplar tree came crashing down just after 11.30am.

'I heard a heck of a thump,' he said. 'I had no idea what it was. I went to the porch to have a look and that's when I saw the tree.'

He did not know how much damage had been caused to the roof but said it was inevitable that some tiles would have to be replaced.

'It doesn't look too bad,' added Mr Bailey, who has lived in the road for 45 years.
