COMMUTERS abandoned their cars in Town and made their way home on foot yesterday after a thick blanket of snow hit the island.

Queues of traffic formed all around St Peter Port as drivers attempted to get home.

All bus services were cancelled just before noon and taxis stopped running.

Many workers ditched their vehicles in car parks and along roads as the snow and wind continued to increase during the afternoon.

The police yesterday confirmed that nobody would receive parking tickets until the weather had improved, but only if vehicles were left in a safe place and were not blocking roads.
