A BITUMEN spill in airport contractor Lagan's southern compound last year may have been much bigger than previously reported, according to the Forest douzaine.

A spokesman for the Office of Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation, which investigated the matter with Guernsey Water, said the matter was no longer being pursued because no environmental pollution had occurred.

He estimated the spillage covered an area of about four square metres and said water samples taken from near the spill and tests on a domestic borehole nearby had been clear.

But Forest douzaine vice-dean Dave Gorvel said his understanding was that a far greater spillage had occurred.

  • Lagan was invited to respond and is expected to do so today.
