Islanders were told last night that Education will 'go to the wire' to make sure its vision for a world-class education system succeeds.

The pledge, from Deputy Richard Conder, came during a question-and-answer session at St Sampson's High about the strategy document, which includes the promise to review selection, create a Guernsey form of local management of schools, and introduce an entitlement to 15 hours of pre-school education for all children.

One man asked why islanders should have confidence in the department to make things happen.

Education minister Robert Sillars, pictured, told the 50 or so islanders in attendance that 'time would tell'. 'I believe it will happen and that we will do everything we can to make it happen,' he said.
