VALE INFANTS' leadership and management is 'less than proficient', the school's latest validation report has shown.

A summary of the report, which was released to parents yesterday, comes just weeks after an announcement from the Education Department that head teacher Jasmine Bynam had made the decision to step down.

Validators use a five-point scale to evaluate a school's performance – excellent, well developed, proficient, less than proficient and underdeveloped.

While pupils' enjoyment and achievement, teaching and assessment and curriculum were graded as proficient, the school's self evaluation, leadership and evaluation and capacity to improve were marked as less than proficient.

The issues are highlighted as the main areas for school improvement.
