A TOP UK minister will be discussing Sark's decision to oppose having a full-time civil servant during his visit to the island this week.

Minister of State for Justice Lord McNally, pictured, will have these issues on his agenda as he heads to Sark, confirmed the Ministry of Justice.

Chief Pleas' decision to reject taking on the island's first permanent full-time civil servant came amid some fears of outside intervention and that the island could lose its independence. After the decision was made last week, a Ministry of Justice spokesman said: 'Lord McNally is scheduled to be visiting Sark next week and is intending to discuss these issues during his time on the island.'

The proposal was defeated by a single vote, but had been considered the highest priority by temporary chief secretary Colin Kniveton during his time in and report on Sark.
