STATES members will now have the chance to discuss the AFR saga in the Assembly.

While a formal debate with a proposition is still not guaranteed, both Home minister Jonathan Le Tocq and Scrutiny chairman Paul Arditti, pictured, will answer questions on the issue from Deputy John Gollop next Wednesday.

The committee has refused to bring its critical report into Home's handling of the saga to the States for debate because it wants to remain apolitical. But the questions mean that other deputies will also be able to quiz the minister and chairman with follow-up ones.

'My interest is not only to get a degree of on-the-record response but it will also raise the matter in the public arena and allow members to ask supplementaries,' said Deputy Gollop.
