PLANS for centralised kerbside recycling could be dead in the water unless all the douzaines agree to take part, the Public Services Department has said.

And more parishes have now confirmed that they have severe misgivings about the proposed government scheme.

A Public Services spokesman said the department had been instructed by the States to introduce island-wide kerbside recycling at the earliest opportunity.

'It is difficult to see how this can be achieved if individual parishes could choose between going it alone or opting into a central scheme,' he said.

'More likely, it would be on the basis of all parishes providing the service or it being done centrally.'
