A DISAGREEMENT over the definition of what constitutes retail activity has led to Martel Maides appealing its TRP valuation.

The issue arose around the Cadastre department's decision to classify all of the Martel Maides property as being primarily used for retail activities.

The estate agent and auctioneer disputes this, saying there are two distinct parts to the property – the auction house on the lower floor, which could be classified as retail, and the storeroom, which occupies the upper 1.5 storeys, which it wants classified as a warehouse.

Three TRP panel members, representatives from Martel Maides and the Cadastre department met to try to resolve the dispute.

The panel will reach its decision this week.
