FIVE vehicles have been deemed dangerous by police carrying out checks around the island this week.

Officers were stopping the traffic at Route Militaire yesterday as part of a series of routine checks.

Traffic Sergeant John Tostevin said officers spent time at different locations throughout the island this week, including the north and in Town.

'We have scrapped and taken five vehicles off the road for being in a dangerous condition,' he said.

'Seven have been issued notices for the vehicle defect rectification scheme.'

The problems included tyres and minor faults and the scheme enables motorists to get those fixed without having to go to court.
