DOUZAINES must stand up to the States over the kerbside collection of recyclable materials, Castel parishioners have said.

The issue was discussed at a parish meeting this week and many parishioners and Castel deputies in attendance expressed concern about Public Services' plans to centralise the service.

There was also widespread praise for the parish's current waste contractor, whom many fear could be forced out of business by the proposed island-wide set-up.

Deputy Chris Green, pictured, thought the States had conducted itself poorly over the issue.

He was also worried about the increased cost to islanders.

Deputy Sandra James agreed, saying she was staggered by the possible price rise and was concerned for people in small properties who might not have room for recycling boxes.
