PUBLIC SERVICES should take a report to the States to explain why the cost of building infrastructure for its export waste strategy has increased by £20.5m., Deputy Peter Gillson has said.

The former non-voting member of the PSD waste disposal committee, pictured, has called for a debate following the department's announcement that the £3.5m. figure had increased to £24m.

But he has warned that it might be too late to change.

'The revelation that the cost would be eight-times the cost in the previous report is absolutely shocking,' he said.

'Irrespective of the subject matter, if a department submits a report which is accepted then finds the costs are significantly higher the department should revert to the States.'
