STATES negotiating is again under the spotlight after it was revealed that teachers and the Policy Council are still at odds over last September's pay - a year after talks began.

NASUWT secretary Caroline Bowker, pictured, confirmed Commerce and Employment conciliators had been called in to help find a resolution to the pay talks, which started in February last year and have put negotiations for this September on hold.

It follows heavy criticism of States negotiators from public sector employees who secured a below RPI pay increase of 2.1% this week after a break-down in the pay group's discussions led to a tribunal.

Deputy Allister Langlois, a Policy Council member with responsibility for pay negotiations and a former member of the now disbanded Public Sector Remuneration Committee did not wish to comment on the teachers' situation.
