SARK Estate Management has warned that it will be forced to dismiss more than 100 members of staff if the island does not introduce a Customs post.

In a letter sent to Seigneur Michael Beaumont, managing director Kevin Delaney appealed to the island's feudal leader to consent to one being established.

He said it would open the island to more visitors from Europe – something that the economy and the tourist industry needed.

But Mr Beaumont said it was not his decision to make, because he was non-political.

He has therefore passed on the letter to a Chief Pleas committee. Mr Delaney, pictured, argued that it was a matter of urgency.
