SARK is a step closer to an administration fit for the 21st century after Chief Pleas approved the appointment of a senior administrator, a General Purposes and Advisory Committee member has said.

The proposal, for a civil servant to help coordinate the work of government and advise conseillers, was accepted by 21 votes to four.

GP&A member Andrew Cook, pictured, was pleased with the result – the request was thrown out by conseillers at the last meeting in Easter.

He said the fact that politicians had asked for the report to come back to Chief Pleas once their questions had been satisfied showed Sark's government was united.
