EXTREME sports fans labelled Guernsey's long-awaited skatepark 'awesome and exciting' as they stepped foot on it for the first time last night.

Children and teenagers gave a big thumbs up to the site, next to Beau Sejour, when they took a sneak peek at the facility yesterday evening.

It was the first of two 'walkabout' events, ahead of the skatepark's official opening on Saturday 8 June.

Among the youngest to take a peek at the park was 10-year-old skateboarder Cameron James, who was with his grandmother.

'Everything is great,' said the Forest Primary School pupil. 'I will be using it. I have been going to Delancey, but it is nothing compared to this.'
