A SKIP company owner has labelled the States' new centralised payment system a disaster after his lorries were refused access to Mont Cuet yesterday.

Skipco Ltd owner and managing director Jeff Guilbert said he is owed £9,324 from an ongoing contract with a States department, which he needed to pay outstanding tipping charges of about £9,000.

He said his attempt to get a temporary arrangement in place until the matter was resolved had been refused by the States, which meant he now had to transfer money from a personal account to keep his drivers working.

A Treasury and Resources Department spokesman said the new system was working well overall, but there had been some teething problems in some areas, including 'accounts payable', as it beds in.
