A WOMAN whose 'urgent' operation was cancelled with just a day's notice feels let down by the health service.

Helen Weldon, 52, was due to undergo surgery on her bowel, bladder and womb on Wednesday 22 May.

However, she received a call from Health and Social Services the day before at 3pm informing her it had been cancelled due to the number of emergency admissions and that she would need to arrange another operation with the Medical Specialist Group.

Mrs Weldon said she has now had enough and would like it all to be over.

'I think at the moment the Princess Elizabeth Hospital is worse than NHS hospitals in some respect.'

  • More than 80 operations were cancelled from 1 January to 2 May this year – around two-thirds of which were due to a lack of beds.

  • HSSD was approached for comment but had not done so by this morning.
