MORE than 100 operations have been cancelled so far this year, the Health and Social Services Department and the Medical Specialist Group have confirmed.
Staffing problems were the biggest cause of the postponements. Severe weather also had an impact.
But HSSD insist that a number of new staff have now been recruited to tackle the shortfall.
The latest figures showed 107 operations have been postponed since January.
The numbers showed that cancellations have been steadily rising, with more than 20 operations postponed over the last four weeks.
