MOTORISTS who continue to obstruct the foot and cycle path opposite the Longstore could face fines under a new focus by Guernsey Police.

The force is cracking down on the problem following a number of complaints from members of the public.

Businesses and cyclists yesterday welcomed the move, especially following the accident in April, in which Advocate David Allison died following a collision with a lorry on the cycle path near the Salerie Corner.

Inspector Nigel Taylor said that, over the coming weeks, drivers found flouting the law would be given a warning.

However, persistent offenders would be issued with a fixed penalty notice and potentially prosecuted.
