POLICE have been carrying out covert speed checks on a Forest road in a bid to slow down vehicles.

Several drivers have been caught out by the traps along Rue du Manoir, with speeds of up to 64mph measured along the 35mph straight road.

Officers need special permission to do covert checks and Chief Inspector Nigel Taylor authorised the operation.

He said it was important to ensure road safety.

He said there had been regular complaints from residents about Rue du Manoir, but there are no pavements along the road, making it difficult to do speed checks safely.
