And Geomarine Ltd has disputed claims by the department that local tenderers could not have started work until October, saying it could have begun repairs in July.
A strongly-worded statement from managing director Ian Gilmour was released in response to comments from the Environment board, which explained that the company had been turned down in favour of Jersey-based Brenwal Ltd because the work needed to be done as soon as possible.
'In our tender return covering letter we stated that due to our current work load that we could not start work until August/September,' said Mr Gilmour, pictured.
'When told that this start date could be a stumbling block we re-examined our work schedules and advised the client that we could start in July if needed.'
'Our quotation was £55,000 cheaper than the accepted tender,' Mr Gilmour said.
