A SARK resident who has raised about £100,000 in the past 50 years for the island's marine ambulances was presented with a special award yesterday in recognition of her efforts.

Dorothy Taylor has been fundraising specifically for the St John Ambulance and Rescue Service's marine ambulances since the 1960s.

Records dating back to 1997 show that she has collected £38,000 for the service's current vessel, the Flying Christine III.

The Mermaid Tavern proprietor donates the entrance fee from discos she runs twice a week in the summer and collects money in charity boxes in the winter.

She praised the work of the service and said she would keep on raising money for as long as she could.
