FEARS are mounting that a bleak future lies ahead for Sark's children unless drastic action is taken to reverse the island's fortunes.

A group of islanders have been meeting privately to discuss their hopes and fears for the island amid growing concern over the state of the economy, lack of job opportunities and dwindling tourism.

Among them is estate agent Natalie Craik, who has a 17-month-old daughter called Mia and who was concerned about her future education and job prospects.

'Sark's future does not look very bright at the moment,' said the 37-year-old.

'At the moment we are in a position where a lot of people may not be working in the winter and where people will have to think about leaving the island.'
