REBRANDING Aurigny as 'Guernsey Air' would make more sense to holidaymakers, some of the airline's passengers said.

Many of those flying out of the island on the States-owned airline yesterday admitted that they did not know what the name meant, how to spell it or even how it was pronounced.

It follows a campaign to rebrand Aurigny to Guernsey Air, or something similar, by Deputy Darren Duquemin.

Newcastle resident Neil Robinson, 53, who has been flying with Aurigny to Guernsey regularly to see family and friends for the last 15 years, said the change would be a good idea.

'Aurigny has always been the name I've known but for those who don't know the island, something with the word "Guernsey" would be more identifiable,' he said.

However Mads Clausen, 34, on holiday from Denmark, disagreed.

'I see the argument for wanting to change but I think you would be taking away the charm of having something local and something more traditional,' said Mr Clausen.
