Jose Goncalves, of Jali-Gon, Courtil St Jacques, St Peter Port, told the Magistrate's Court how he had lost concentration momentarily while dealing with a difficult passenger.

He admitted failing to comply with a traffic signal, which ended his unblemished driving record.

The court heard that Mr Goncalves had lived in Guernsey for 34 years and had been driving buses or lorries for at least the last 15 of them.

Judge Philip Robey said the offence normally attracted a driving ban but it would not on this occasion. He fined Mr Goncalves £250.
