CRITICS of a controversial decision to award the Perelle seawall repairs to a Jersey-based firm have been converted after the project finished early.

Residents and businesses close to where the damage occurred were full of praise for Brenwal Ltd as the coast road reopened yesterday.

High tides ripped a 7m hole in the sea defence last October.

The appointment of the company sparked outrage from the local building industry, with many astonished that the contract was not awarded to a Guernsey firm.

But nearby resident Bert Enevoldsen, 84, said Brenwal had been brilliant.

Mary Enevoldsen, 76, who has lived in the area with her husband for 12 years, was pleased to see things return to normal.
