INDUSTRY figures have backed the need for substantial office space and a long-awaited new cinema at Admiral Park.

Guernsey's business community and the owner of the island's only cinema yesterday welcomed approval being granted to outline plans from Comprop to build residential, office, hotel and leisure facilities at the site.

Mallard cinema owner Robert Parker said his group was now keen to hold talks with Comprop over the possibility of operating the multiplex at Admiral Park.

But Mr Parker, pictured, said they would now be seeking to look at the finer details of any potential move and alternative uses for their existing Forest-based cinema.

The Guernsey International Business Association's Dominic Wheatley said the group welcomed further investment in island infrastructure.

Institute of Directors chairman Mark Palfrey also welcomed the latest plans from a developer with a proven track record.
