A NEW ferry service between Alderney and Guernsey is set to launch this autumn.

Alderney States members have been in talks with Isle of Sark Shipping Company to run a scheduled weekly service using the Sark Venture and hailed it as a 'wonderful' opportunity.

But established Alderney to Guernsey ferry operator Bumblebee Boat Cruises accused the company of 'plagiarising' their product and questioned its viability.

The Sark Venture can carry around 120 passengers, including 80 seats indoors.

Julie Mann, director of the The Isle of Sark Shipping Company, said she thought the service would be 'beneficial' to all concerned.

The crossing will take two to two and a half hours on average and around three hours when the tides are against them.

Ms Mann said they would sail at least once a week.
