THE hot weather has resulted in the island suffering a spate of fires lately.

The most recent incidents involved a blazing St Peter's field, where a small bonfire got out of control yesterday, and a generator at Saturday's It's a Knockout event, which caught fire as it was being refuelled.

Today's Guernsey Press features some safety tips from the Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service. Let us know if you have any ideas of areas of the island most at risk of combustion and we'll investigate this burning issue further.

Following this week's story about a man targeted by armed police following a St Martin's boundary dispute, we'll also be looking at Guernsey's gun laws.

The firearm in question turned out to be a BB gun, but the man's neighbor obviously thought it was the real deal. Would you be able to tell the difference? And do you think tougher regulations are needed to avoid such incidents escalating in future?

Also today, we'll be finding out how the Town Carnival is going and looking ahead to tomorrow's Rocquaine Regatta and next month's summer shows.

In tomorrow's Sport pages, injured Guernsey FC star Ryan-Zico Black reveals when he will be returning to action, we preview the biggest domestic cricket match of the season so far when the mighty Miton Optimal take on big rivals Cobo Tigers on Sunday, plus Inside Track asks what's wrong with the Island Games?
