DEVELOPMENT options that will shape the face of Guernsey have been outlined in a new planning consultation.

Environment is looking to create a new development blueprint that could see:

  • some redundant vineries used for small-scale businesses

  • housing developments required to provide a specified amount of affordable housing

  • large housing or community developments required to include outdoor recreational space

  • roadside homes demolished to give clearer views of the countryside beyond (to be replaced elsewhere)

It is likely that the new plan would also allow a certain amount of development around identified rural centres.

These include Cobo, Forest, L'Islet, St Martin's, St Peter's, Trinity Square, Longstore, the Rohais, L'Aumone and Capelles.

Islanders have been asked to give feedback on the consultation document – titled 'Key messages, issues and options'.
