MORE development in St Martin's will be difficult to achieve, say businesses and residents.

As one of the Environment Department's proposed 'local centres' the area is viewed as a prime candidate for development because it has 'excellent facilities' as well as a good pedestrian environment and bus service.

Businesses and residents disagreed though, questioning what more could be built in the already heavily populated area.

Adventure Cycles owner Dan Thwaite, 31, pictured, said the main road running through St Martin's - La Grande Rue - was already struggling with traffic volumes and any extra development would need to address that problem.

St Martin's senior constable Graham Smale said the parish had a 'good balance' of business and residential and any new developments should maintain this.

Senner's Bakery manger Martin Senner, 48, wondered what else the area needed but said if a business wanted to relocate to St Martin's, it should not be discouraged from doing so.
