And its spare capacity is four times that of failed Huelin Renouf's total goods movements.
Mr Soar said it would be able to step in for the short-term to help with any shortfalls.
'This sad news comes as a reminder that the markets struggle to accommodate more than one passenger and vehicle ferry provider and more than one major freight ferry provider,' he said.
'There are currently five or six major logistics providers, as well as several smaller operators, providing an effective, competitive market to and from the islands.' He suggested that a single ferry and freight operator could take on the service, with the price being controlled by strict regulation.
