PRIVACY breaches at the hospital will not be tolerated, according to the Health and Social Services Department.

The department was responding after the Guernsey Press was contacted by a nurse, who wished to remain anonymous, outlining her concerns about invasions of privacy she and other staff were facing while working at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

'We have a patient in hospital right now filming us and other patients. He is also commenting on his Facebook page about this. We are bound by data protection, yet patients come into hospital and do this to us. We have no rights.'

HSSD said it has a clear policy on the use of mobile phones and 'the filming of a nurse from a mobile phone is not acceptable on any of the wards'. The department said staff were within their rights to tell a patient to stop using their mobile phone for that purpose.
