Ship2me finds new base after Huelin-Renouf collapse

GOODS belonging to 23 Ship2me customers were stuck temporarily in Southampton when Huelin-Renouf went under at the beginning of last week.

And, as a result of the freight firm’s liquidation, it has had to move its holding store from Southampton to Portsmouth.

The shipping service, part of the Jersey Post Group, relied on the failed shipping firm to transport goods from UK retailers that did not ship to the Channel Islands.

Jersey Post chief executive Kevin Keen said it had managed to get the stranded items to Jersey and they should arrive in Guernsey today, although larger items could take longer.

Why has it taken so long to get customers packages back to us? Jersey had their goods trapped in Southampton back a week ago thanks to a relief ship the port organised.

Does anybody use this company anyway? The costs look very unappealing, even on their website they quote an example of an item that costs £100 including VAT in the UK costing £137.50 when they deliver it here. With no assurance that you can ever reclaim the £16.67 VAT. If you buy it from the right retailer via Amazon it would cost £83.33 with no VAT, shipping or insurance to worry about. Am I missing something, or are Ship2me's customers?

There is no point using the service for Amazon or other retailers who will ship direct for free or for a nominal sum.

But some retailers in the UK will not ship to the CI or, if they do, will insist on using a courier which can be very expensive depending on the item. For those items, if you really want them, then it can be worthwhile using the Ship2me service.

We've used it quite a few times and it certainly fills a gap in the market. Our main grumble is that items seem to get stuck in the system somewhere and take a while to arrive.
