Vocal coach Mr Reece-Sheerin, 57, pictured, saw his first attempt at the charity fundraising swim on Saturday afternoon cancelled due to high winds. As the swim can only be done on certain neap tides, the second attempt was delayed until Sunday afternoon. Mr Reece-Sheerin got into the water off Longue Hougue at about 3pm and made a good start. But then the weather turned against him. After 35 minutes he had to abandon the attempt.

'One minute I was swimming in a slight to moderate swell and then suddenly the swell was huge,' he said. 'It changed incredibly quickly.' After 35 minutes he had to abandon the attempt. 'I am now looking at the tides at the end of November,' he said.
