FLYBE could start offering flights to Luton, after applying to the Commerce and Employment Department to take on the route.

The news comes on the same day as the airline announces that non-executive chairman Jim French has stepped down.

The airline currently offers direct flights from the island to Gatwick, Southampton, Norwich, Jersey, Exeter and Birmingham.

But it is pulling out of Gatwick early next year.

Currently Aurigny offers services to London via Gatwick and Stansted, while Blue Islands flies to London City via Jersey.
