COMMERCE and Employment will decide within the next few weeks whether it will conduct a review into firework regulations next year.

The department has confirmed its intention to look into the current law, but added that its 2014 business plan was not yet decided.

A department spokesman said fireworks were among explosives regulated by a law from 1905.

'As its date suggests, it is a candidate for review and updating,' he said.

'In fact, this work had been identified and included in the health and safety executive's work plan in previous years, but put on hold due to other priorities and because reviews of the equivalent controls in the UK and Europe were commencing and with which it is valuable for Guernsey to be in harmony.'
