A HOSPITAL trust in Southampton which treats Guernsey patients regularly has been found to be at ‘raised’ risk of providing poor care.

The University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, a main provider of acute off-island services, has been criticised in a report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) review of hospital trusts.

The document criticised the trust for having a high death rate and a higher than expected number of patient safety incidents.

But Health and Social Services said it had been in talks with the trust and it did not believe there to be any ‘immediate risks’ to patients being treated there.

‘We have sought assurance from University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust about the risks highlighted in this report,’ said a spokesman.

‘However, HSSD intends to keep these new reports under review, and to use the specific intelligence which is relevant to the services that the department commissions.’

I have never understood why we don't use France. The UK NHS does quite often - especially when a patient requests it. The French are gob-smacked by the terrible record of the UK, and not worse than most third banana republics. Even by the UK government's own admission, the number of patiends who are being allowed to die of criminal neglect due to thirst, starvation, or terrible post-op infections has reached thousands every year! I understand from a health professional in Northern France, the country is quite keen to sell its services for public and private treatment - all we need is a better airlink! Speaking from personal experience, private treatment in France is less expensive than Guernsey and GP and dentist consultations are a real bargain and loads cheaper than Guernsey.

Best look closer to home HSSD. You just had a scandal of bad care packages. You want to go after NHS ? Typical hypocrisy .

Wonder if HSSD can confirm why it is offering redundancy packages in 2 hospitals to local Nurses then replacing them with Agency staff that get paid double that of a Local ? Lets see who runs this agency and why they are here... Comments are welcome from any HSSD board member. I really am keen to find out more information on this.

I think this issue is more important than the offshore problem.
