HUNDREDS of children waited excitedly to give Father Christmas their letters on Saturday and to see the St Peter Port Christmas lights switched on.

Santa arrived by lifeboat at the slip by the Guernsey Yacht Club where he was met by the Scout Band, which led this year's festive parade.

On his journey to Church Square he was accompanied by many characters, including some from Alice in Wonderland, Shrek, Toy Story and Harry Potter.

Local stars Daniel the Donkey and Bernard the Dog also joined in.

Some families had waited for more than an hour to make sure they saw Father Christmas and the crowds cheered when the special guest arrived.
