CREATING a garage on the old GT Cars site could lead to an accident with traffic speeding around the blind corner, its neighbours have warned.

Planners have recommended the approval of Comprop's request to build a garage, warehouse and offices on the former quarry, which will be considered at an open planning meeting next week.

Retired hospital cleaner Molly Mauger, 82, who has lived in Les Bas Courtils for 13 years, feared cars exiting the garage onto the coast would present a danger.

'A few years ago I was trying to get out of my drive, a women on the other side of the road was waving me out, and a driver came flying round the corner at top speed and clipped the front of my car,' she said.

'Because I was the one pulling out the damage came off my insurance but the car was going too fast – it didn't stop till it got to the church. How there hasn't been a bad accident I don't know.'

Planners said that many of the objections to the site could be mitigated through planning conditions. It accepted that the development would lead to more traffic.
