CREATING a garage on the old GT Cars site could lead to an accident with traffic speeding around the blind corner, its neighbours have warned.

Planners have recommended the approval of Comprop’s request to build a garage, warehouse and offices on the former quarry, which will be considered at an open planning meeting next week.

Retired hospital cleaner Molly Mauger, 82, who has lived in Les Bas Courtils for 13 years, feared cars exiting the garage onto the coast would present a danger.

‘A few years ago I was trying to get out of my drive, a women on the other side of the road was waving me out, and a driver came flying round the corner at top speed and clipped the front of my car,’ she said.

‘Because I was the one pulling out the damage came off my insurance but the car was going too fast – it didn’t stop till it got to the church. How there hasn’t been a bad accident I don’t know.’

Planners said that many of the objections to the site could be mitigated through planning conditions. It accepted that the development would lead to more traffic.

Ha ha ha, what a load of old rubbish, what about all the people that live along there and have to pull out their driveways ?

I think they should build this garage because somebody might get lost in the undergrowth after the fence got damaged and it became easy to enter the site.

What about Doyles in Brock Road, same traffic situation their and no accidents !!

Blind corner?

In that road?

Where would that be then?

Ridiculous. A woman causes an accident a few years ago and wants to stop the development? Absolute joke.

Are people forgotten what used to be there before a scrap yard, garage so its makes no difference to the road its been done before utter rubbish

Whatever they build there has got to look better than what's there now.

I actually think this may as well become residential as the area is serviced well with other nearby petrol stations, plus it really is not a good location (have you tried pulling out from Grande Maison Road to go towards Richmond recently?!)

Another case of NIMBY syndrome.

Interesting thought Molly, it's unlikely that your objection will be taken into consideration. GT cars and it's forebears operated safely for years with incident. The whole site is an absolute disgrace and development is long over due.

A petrol station? On a busy road? The world isn't ready for such crazy things...
