DELAYS to developing Leale's Yard are holding the Bridge back, retailers have said.

The seven-acre site is due to be transformed into a commercial and residential development but currently lies desolate.

Plans to build on the former industrial land have repeatedly stalled after the Channel Islands Co-operative Society struggled to find enough businesses prepared to commit to taking space.

But chief executive Colin Macleod said that, although unable to be specific, plans were in the pipeline.

'We are hoping to announce something over the coming months.'

Poundworld and Paws and Claws owner Nigel Staples wants to see the site developed as soon as possible as the area is unsightly.
