A SEVERE weather alert has been issued for today with winds predicted to reach up to storm force 10 tonight.

Met office officials said the gales that battered Guernsey and parts of the UK over the weekend were due to increase today.

They will peak at severe gale force 9 tonight, with gusts of up to 80mph, possibly storm-force 10 at times. ‘High winds combined with heavy rain will cause disruption with falling trees and structural damage,’ said a Met. office spokesman.

Fishing boat Dieu Te Garde was left stranded on rocks at Les Amarreurs yesterday after its mooring broke in the high winds.

If it's anything like the south of England. Many will wake up tomorrow with the whole of the lowlands underwater due to a storm surge from the sea.

If it was a spring tide there probably would be localized flooding but it's not, the tides are about 7.4 meters tomorrow which is about 2 meters below high water spring so unless the surge is some 2 meters at high tide it will not flood anywhere. The wind direction is south-west so the low lying west coastal areas are not particularly vulnerable. I hope.
