AIRLINES were scrambling today to get passengers to their destinations in time for Christmas after a day of disruption yesterday.

Flights were seriously curtailed from mid-afternoon due to the storm force winds.

It led to Aurigny, Flybe and Blue Islands cancelling services from Gatwick, Bristol, East Midlands, Manchester, Exeter and Southampton.

Flights were leaving on time this morning, but many hundreds of passengers will be hoping that services will not be disrupted again as the airlines try to catch up.

The early flights to Gatwick and Manchester took off this morning, and there were only slight delays on the two Southampton flights.

Inter-island services also suffered heavy disruption yesterday.

At sea, the Commodore Clipper took 11 hours to make the crossing from Portsmouth, but passengers disembarking just before 4am today said the journey was not as bad as they had feared.
