A TROOP of serving and retired military personnel walked 13 miles on Saturday as they took part in the annual Yuletide Yomp.

The walk, which was in its fifth year, raised money for Help for Heroes and the Army Benevolent Fund.

Although the collections have yet to be counted, Channel Island Help for Heroes co-ordinator Pete Burtenshaw said it was hoped to raise roughly the same amount as last year – £4,000.

'This event is very important for those serving in the armed forces but it is also important for those ex-personnel,' he said.

'It has that camaraderie and everyone keeping everybody going – it is a really nice feeling.'
