Sarkees could be given time to pay tax bills

SARK'S tax regime could be temporarily relaxed after reports that individuals would struggle to meet payments in the remaining winter months.

The Finance and Commerce Committee has submitted a late report to the next meeting of Chief Pleas on 22 January proposing a number of modifications to payments for 2014.

This includes allowing individuals to pay tax in nine monthly instalments.

For the first three months of the year individuals could pay as little as £20.

They would have to cover the shortfall in the following four months, meaning tax payments were up to date by the end of July.

Committee chairman Conseiller Rob Cottle said his group called an extraordinary meeting after it was contacted by the Sark Action for Families and Employment (Safe) steering committee, which raised the concern.
