Income Tax office is now accepting online returns

ISLANDERS are finally able to submit their tax returns online, after the Income Tax office managed narrowly to meet its own deadline.

However, it will be nearly another two weeks before the public can pick up a paper return.

The under-strain staff initially stated that they would be unable to accept any 2013 returns until February 3, due to a backlog.

But after pressure from the public and the Treasury and Resources political board – which oversee income tax – civil servants announced on January 10 that the system would be online as soon as possible and 'no later than Monday 20 January'.

A Treasury and Resources spokesman confirmed that the facility went live mid-afternoon on Monday.

'Since going live, we have been monitoring the system regularly and have not identified any problems with it. Indeed, some 284 returns have now been submitted online since the system was made available yesterday.'
