Following a successful trial period in early 2013, the Guernsey Police has introduced CCTV equipment, the size of a credit card, which is attached to officers stab vests.

Sergeant Claire Edwards said it was now mandatory for officers to wear the Edesix cameras while on duty.

'It is just another bit of equipment that assists you when dealing with matters and assists the public.

'Especially when you're on your on your own it does make you feel safer and I think they are a brilliant idea.'

The cameras are not specifically made for police but they have been adapted for officers. The force has bought 14 of the cameras but would not disclose the price of them.

When in use, each officer has to sign-in using an id number so they are able to find out who was using them at what time. Footage can then be easily downloaded onto a computer.

Response driver Jen Power, pictured, said on occasions she has been accused of assaulting people when out on jobs and agreed the cameras gave them extra protection.
